Ah, I misunderstood you. I though you refered to a post about HTC Hero that I recently posted. The download you refer to has been removed since it was far outdated. After I got my Hero I’ve stopped following the Android on the Cruise. Sorry.

I noticed on my blog that at each WordPress upgrade, the plugin seems to reset file permissions to “nobody” and so I have to grant back access to everyone.

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed I use wp-download plugin and I have recently upgraded WP to latest version as well. But the download plugin is also at latest version and I have no problems downloading the file myself.

You can however try downloading the file directly bypassing the download plugin:
http://blog.paks.no/files/HTC_Hero_rooting.zip

I try to follow your instructions for android on my HTC: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4037612&postcount=1384

But I can’t get a valid download link for the files.

I see that you’re running WordPress. I recognize WP-Downloads plugin URL’s.
If I’m right and you upgraded your WordPress recently, you should check your plugin status.

And thanks for the instructions even if I failed at stage 1! ^^
