This add-in allows you to edit the settings for Microsoft’s media serving software, Media Connect, which comes bundled with Windows Home Server.
The configuration software is available in-box on HP’s MediaSmart Server or it can be downloaded from here if you have other brands of Home Server.
This add-in simply starts that configurator from within a Windows Home Server Console Tab and allows you to allow and block access from your home server to various media devices in the home – an Xbox 360 for example.
Released: 2009-04-28
Version: 1.0.0.2
From the main screen you can see which media devices that have tried to connect to your sever. Here you can choose to allow or disallow access from those devices. From the shares screen you can add, edit and remove the folder you want to share. And from the settings screen you can decide if Media Connect is to start up automatically, and if new devices will get approved for access by default or not. Click images to see full size.
Sometimes you need to click the “Media Connect” toolbar multiple times in order to get the application to dock in the WHS console.

Hi Pal,
would like to use your plugin which is a very good implementation idea. Unfortunately it does not work on my home server. I have already installed WHS PP2 (update today
) and the media connect server is up and running. But your addIn doesn’t find the wmccfg.exe. Starting the wmccfg.exe manually works fine. I assume the problem could be the path which is “c:\Programme\Media Connect\wmccfg.exe” (german WHS version). Is it possible that you have hardcoded the path to “c:\program files\Media Connect\wmccfg.exe” instead of using the system variables like “%ProgramFiles%\Media Connect\wmccfg.exe”?
Thanks for help. Feel free to contact me via eMail if you need some further information.
Thanks in advance for help,
Martin
Hi Martin
You are absolutely right. I’ve been lazy and hard coded that path. Will make a new version and release it as soon as I can.
Thank you for reporting this.
Right, version 1.0.0.2 is out. Uses %ProgramFiles% environment variable so it should now also work with non-english WHS languages. Leave a comment if it still does not work.
I installed your add in and re-started WHS, but now when I open the console it is just a blue screen. The server is still up and I can access the folders, so I tried deleting the add-in but still get the blue screen.
Thoughts?
Hi Pal,
for me version 1.0.0.2 works perfectly. Thanks for your fast response.

Hi Pal,
i have now windows 7 running, and your add-in shows the WMC from that version absolut correct. Very good work.
Br, Mike
The Media Connect configuration application is written by Microsoft, my add-in simple starts the application and docks it inside the WHS console. This is something you can do with most exe files. So I cannot take credit for the Media Connect stuff, only the simple add-in that launches is and docks it inside the console.
Hi Pål,
please, contact me again via my private mail address.
My mail provider had have a big problem. I have lost so many mails, very bad.

Hi Pal,
I have your pluggin running (v 1.0.0.2) and it works great with the exception that whenever the server gets restarted it reverts back to the original default settings.
Have you heard of this and know of a fix?
Thanks for your help!
Nathan
Hi Nathan
I suspect that you have turned media sharing on also in Microsoft’s media sharing addin located under “Settings” in the Windows Home Server Console. This might cause a conflict.
